Why can scissors cut my kevlar hood?
I bought this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/HATCH-HEAVYWEIGHT-KEVLAR-SWAT-POLICE-FIRE-HOOD-KH4500-/350281078909?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Gloves_Mittens&hash=item518e61187d and tested its strength as soon as it arrived. I tried to slash(small sawing motion) it with a pocket knife and another blade(both can aren't super sharp but they can cut plastic, thread, string, cloth, ect). They hood took no damage at all. So lastly I attempted to make a small cut with a pair of scissors and it cut like paper. I'm confused? I was hoping someone would know why this happened and if the item is actually slash proof. I know it can't do anything for a stab but I expected this hood to be able to take a glancing slash. I wanted to know for sure. Thanks in advance!
Kevlar is bullet resistant. That does not mean you cannot cut it with a knife or scissor. How do you think the manufacturers were able to make anything out of kevlar if they could not cut it to shape?
You can easily stab someone wearing a Kevlar vest and it would offer no better protection than a plain coat. You wear a Kevlar balaclava because it's better than nothing on your face.
