Getting Intimate With Your Gas Cooker
If cooking is really well in your culinary blood, then you’d probably be interested to know more about the cooking stuff you use in the kitchen. Understanding the cooking tools you have will not only allow you to cook the best dish for your family but also give you the opportunity to use your kitchen appliance for the longest time possible at its maximum performance.
One example of cooking tool that you frequently use is a stove gas cooker. A stove gas cooker, or gas range as it is more commonly called, is built up of an oven, a broiler, and many burners, over which are plates to hold pots, kettles, and frying pans for cooking. There may be a lot of types and sizes of stove gas cookers, but in principle, the only difference is the arrangement or position of the oven, broiler, and the burners.
A good type of a stove gas cooker is one where the oven is located on top of the stove, instead of below it. The good thing about this type is that you won’t have to stoop or bend over to do the broiling or baking. The door of this oven is made up of glass, which allows you to take a clear look at the food you are cooking without losing any heat from opening the door.
The gas for this type of stove gas cookers is held within a pipe that connects to another pipe in the main chamber of the appliance. This allows you to simply turn on the stop-cocks and light the gas to get heat for cooking. The stop-cocks also control the four burners on top and another stop-cock is used for the oven and the broiler. A removable metal sheet is provided for catching any particle that may be spilled while cooking the dish, which is a convenient way to aid in cleaning the stove.
For some types, there are spare parts for cooker that afford the user more convenience when lighting the gas. Some cookers are provided with a pilot, which is a small flame of gas manipulated by a gas pipe button where the stop-cocks are connected. The pilot is kept aflame, and when one wishes to light a burner, he simply needs to press the button to allow the flame to shoot up near the burner to ignite the gas.
To ensure the optimum capacity of your stove gas cooker, see to it that the flame given off by the gas is blue. A yellow flame that is accompanied by a slight noise when lighting a burner means that the gas flame is trapped in the pipe. To avoid this from happening, it is prudent for you to observe cleanliness in the gas cooker as well as maintaining regular check-up for the stove parts.

New Gas Stove: w/Gas broiler vs. w/Electric broiler?
Im buying a new stove. We have natural gas, but I see there are new stoves that have gas ovens, yet they also have an electric element for broiling. I was always under the impression that real fire was better for cooking.
What are the advantages of having one of these hybrid ovens? The guy at the store told me "professional cooks prefer electric broilers" which of course sounds like a lie just to get me to buy the oven.
Any thoughts?
I have never been able to get a gas broiler to work. The flames shoot upward, and all of the heat dissipates into the oven...my food comes out warm, but not broiled.
Alternately, I've had great luck with electric broilers. I grew up with an all electric kitchen, so it's like breathing for me. But the electric broilers I've used have worked consistently, getting the heat directed toward my food, which accomplishes my goal.
That's my two cents, which is probably worth about half a penny.
