Bradley Smoker Selection - What's the Model of Choice?

Bradley smokers are easier to use than standard charcoal smokers and enable you to prepare anything from smoked venison to maple cured smoked salmon at home, if you like smoked food but find the process of setting up and cleaning a charcoal smoker tedious then you will appreciate they way a Bradley works. With a charcoal smoker you have to spend considerable time lighting it, you have to wait for it to get up to the right temperature and then you need to stand over your food to ensure it doesn't burn.

 

The smokers in the Bradley range are very different as once you have them set up you can safely leave them cooking your food for hours, your food is smoked with the use of wood briquettes and these are loaded into the smoker when needed by its automatic briquettes loader. A water bowl is also included with the smokers as standard so food cooked inside tends to be juicy and flavorsome in the center rather than being tough and dry, one of the most popular smokers in the range is the Bradley BTIS1 original smoker which is the first smoker released by Bradley.

 

Although the BTIS1 isn't technically the best or the largest smoker in the Bradley range it's actually the most popular choice, the BTIS1 runs on electricity and is about the size of a small fridge. You can expect to fit two whole chickens inside the smoker and it also has four racks that come in handy when you have multiple portions of food to smoke, the smoker also has a thermometer built into its door so you can tell how hot it's running at a glance.

 

For most people the BTIS1 is more than adequate however Bradley also make a series of digital smokers and one of the most popular models is the Bradley BTDS76P, the cooking temperature and cooking time of your food can be controlled more precisely with the BTDS76P. The smoker is approximately the same size as the BTIS1 so naturally it's capable of smoking the same amount of food, if you own a small business or just want a smoker with a larger capacity there is a specific model produced by Bradley that may fit the bill.

 

The Bradley BTDS108P has all of the same benefits as the BTDS76P with the only main difference being its size, the smoker has a total of 6 racks so you can cook a great deal more food in it at once and because of this you get more value out of your wood briquettes. There are plenty of wood briquettes varieties to choose from and each can be used to make specific dishes.

 

The varieties of briquettes include hickory, maple, apple and alder to name a few and you will also find a special Jim Beam Bourbon variety, apple enables you to make a fantastic smoked cheddar cheese while hickory is great for honey spiced chicken wings. Whatever smoker you choose you're unlikely to be disappointed with the abundant selection of dishes you're given the ability to prepare, the smokers also do an exceptional job of smoking turkey so if you're feeling adventurous at Thanksgiving or Christmas you can prepare one for the family.

When using a Bradley Smoker, how many Bradley Smoker Bisquettes are actually needed?

When using a Bradley Smoker, how many Bradley Smoker Bisquettes are actually needed? It says that each Bisquette burns for 20 minutes. But does that mean that a Bisquette should always be burning throughout the process? Let's say I need to smoke the meat for 8 hours, does that mean I need to use 24 Bisquettes? On the Bradley smoker website, people make it seem as though you suppose to have a Bisquette burning constantly. However, when I read about other smokers, I'm instructed not to put too make wood chips, otherwise there would be too much smoke flavored. I'm not familiar with how strong these bradley Bisquettes are, so I'm not sure if other smoker rules apply. Hopefully I can get some feedback from those that own a bradley smoker. Thanks

When I smoke meats on my Bradley I start the unit pre heat it for about 20 minutes.I then add the meat and let the meat reach about 160 degrees for the remainder of the first hour.I then add enough bisquettes for 1/2 smoke time of my total .If I want to leave the meat in 6 hrs I use only 9 bisquettes.Remember your smoker retains smoke flavor from previous cookings.Don't over clean your unit.Just the food racks , element and temp probe.Smoking meats is an easy way to cook and experiment with your own touch added.
To be sure the meat is fully cooked I finish it off in the oven for another half hour at 300 degrees.
pecan , mesquite and hickory bisquettes are my favorites and I will mix them up in the stack.Try making Jerky as well.
